NEWSFLASH! AGAINST THE ODDS, TECHNICAL PROFESSIONAL BECOMES INSPIRATIONAL LEADER
...will you beat the odds?
A study of 1000 managers demonstrated that:

- Less than 10% of their weekly activity was spent on leadership activities
- About 30% was spent on management functions
- Over 60% of their weekly activity remained focused on operational and technical issues
Up to 90% of a manager's time can be spent on the 'doing' tasks that as engineers we feel most comfortable doing. In doing so, we neglect to create and define the future, which is not only a key function of leadership, but is surely the essence of Engineering.
"The paradox of leadership is the ability to do and dream at the same time"
- Jack Welch
It is common for young engineers and technical professionals to be:
- Unprepared for promotions into leadership roles, becoming 'accidental leaders'
- Lacking in the beliefs and self confidence required to transition from technical roles into management
- Stalled in their careers without the skills, knowledge and processes required to take the next step.
In an increasingly competitive and resource constrained environment, engineers are promoted into management and leadership roles early in their careers. Without training, support and coaching, many will fail.
